About

Lonesome Pine Pottery offers finely crafted functional stoneware collections from master ceramic artist Karen Collins.

In 2001, Karen, a lifelong artist in multiple media, began her journey as a ceramicist, apprenticing under the renowned North Carolina potter Kenneth Neilsen.

In 2007 she manifested the dream of owning her own pottery business, beginning with a studio hand built from pine logs.

Since then, Lonesome Pine Pottery has evolved into a full-time career and an outlet for Karen to involve friends, family, and community in the rewarding work that she enjoys. She has tutored local students for their senior projects shadowing trade professionals, taken on her own apprentices, and organized experiential workshops for Wilderness Way Camp School.

Karen is passionate about the transformative power of art to enrich our daily lives, and pours heart and soul into every piece she makes. When you hold one, you truly feel the energy that elevates it from an object to an experience.

“I own several pieces of Karen’s beautiful work, but my favorite is my set of ‘everyday’ dinner plates. Karen worked with me on choosing the colors, and they turned out perfectly! I have gotten so many compliments on them from guests, and they are fully functional including use with dishwasher and microwave. I’m looking forward to ordering matching bowls and salad plates!”
— Caroline
“I bought two pieces from you today in Cashiers. Your work is absolutely beautiful. Your glazes are incredible!”
— L. Jeffries
“I am absolutely sure my husband will love love love the pottery as much as I do! The beautiful, time consuming decorative trim you added to it is gorgeous. You are very talented! Thank you so much.”
— Michelle
“Thank you for my new favorite mug! It’s all in the handles.”
— F. Nakhleh
